A New Take on the City of Angels

When it comes to travel, I find a fascination in things aesthetically appealing and those that leave me with a thought to ponder on. With that being said, I would like to speak about La-La-Land, Los Angeles. This time around I was with my friend, SJ, and her best friend, Daryen.

The Broad

Rather than being 45 minutes away from the city, we were near the mecca itself. Our hostel was located in Koreatown. Staying in a hostel brought in a new sense of adventure as it was a new experience to me.

Knowing that I am a person who luxuriates in being intellectually stimulated, I made it a priority to visit a museum. We ended up visiting The Broad. The architecture of the building threw me off at the beginning, but when I stepped out after viewing the collection inside, I looked out into the sky and was in awe. The lines seemed to point towards the blue, endless abyss. It was an urban view I was truly keen of; a piece of art itself.

While exhibiting The Broad, there was one piece in particular which struck my attention. It was a charcoal drawing by artist, Robert Longo. The name of Longo's art that stuck out to me was Unititled (Men in the Cities: Ellen).

Now, why did this piece strike me? It seems as if I could relate to the woman (possibly, Ellen?) depicted in the photo. It is crazy how a drawing was able to make me feel as if even in a first world with all its perfections, one could still feel distressed. Do not get me wrong, I enjoy the luxuries of what I have. Though, for a second I think I lost myself trying to play money games. I have all the world to gain, however, I do believe that life is quite simple.

All in all, make a visit yourself and review the collection. It was well worth my time.

Bonus: Griffith Observatory - one of my favorite tourist traps in Los Angeles. I always find myself coming back. Not so much for the stars, but for city‘s skyline.
